The Ascent Speaker Series
From our friends at Ascent Backcountry Snow Journal:
Due to the current state of affairs, since we’re no longer able to gather in a bar for your favorite local fundraiser, we’re moving the Ascent Speaker Series online with our friends at the WBA to provide you with high adventure entertainment right into the comfort of your own home!
We’ll be doing shows year round, on the first Thursday of each month via Zoom and Facebook Live. While things will be a bit different, and we’ll miss our usual Thursday gathering at Snowbird, we still hope to bring you speakers sharing their worldwide outdoor experiences to get you motivated for your next outdoor adventure. For more information and to stay connected to the schedule, follow @ascentbackcountry or @wasatchbackcountryalliance for date and upcoming speakers.

Ski touring has been a thing since the Mongolians first strapped wooden slats on their feet, and floating down rivers has been a thing since Cromagnon Man first hollowed out a log to carry him down a river. But only recently has the equipment evolved to the point where a single person can – on one trip – sli through and over mountains to the headwaters of a river and float down the river, all with one pack and one set of gear. “Ski Rafting” is the newest Big Thing with perhaps as many as tens of enthusiats who use lightweight ski gear and packrafts to truly combine rivers and mountains. Tom Diegel introduces this activity and takes us on a trip through the Teton Wilderness to what many consider to be the most remote spot in the lower 48 for a weeklong combo of skiing and packrafting, including a first descent.
