Action Alert: Public Lands are STILL at Risk

Earlier this week, Senator Mike Lee’s proposal to sell off up to 3.3 million acres of public land was struck from the Senate’s budget bill on a technicality, thanks to the Senate parliamentarian. But that reprieve was short-lived—it was a false summit, and this slog is not over yet.
Senator Lee has already returned with a revised version of the proposal. This new language narrows the scope, but it still mandates the sale of up to 1.2 million acres of public lands and waters in the West. Thanks to the overwhelming public response, Forest Service lands were removed from the proposal—a huge win for the Wasatch. But the fight isn’t over.
Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands are still on the chopping block, including cherished recreation areas like Porcupine Rim and Gooseberry Mesa. Check out the updated maps here.

Here’s the nitty gritty:
The Senate parliamentarian will be reviewing the revised land sale proposal. If it clears that step, it could head to a Senate vote this weekend. If it passes the Senate, the House will vote next—and we’re hopeful it can be stopped there — if it goes that far.
But let’s not wait to see what happens. Now is the time to double down on public pressure in both the Senate and House. More and more lawmakers are coming out publicly against this proposal—because they’re hearing from people like you. Out of the 615,000 letters that have been sent to Congress using Outdoor Alliance’s comment form, 49,788 of those were sent to Utah lawmakers (as of this evening). That doesn’t include phone calls, emails, and comments to our Utah lawmakers.
KEEP UP THE PRESSURE! Call and email your Senators and House reps. Tell them: Public lands are not for sale.
